Event Description:

Learn to Surf with Adventure Out!

Whether your Girl Scout has never surfed before or if she just want to improve her skills, Adventure Out has the coaching that will enable them to reach her goals. Instructors will work with your Girl Scout in small groups (4-1 student to instructor ratio), which provide students with more individual attention and a safer environment in which to learn surfing.

Adventure Out instructors are all CPR, First-Aid, & Lifeguard certified and ready to teach your Girl Scout the basics of surfing. They use Soft Core surfboards so that learning is safe and easy and they provide your Girl Scout with a wetsuit so she will be comfortable in the water. Each participant will learn about ocean awareness, wave breaks, ocean conditions, safety in and out of the water, wave etiquette, paddling, push up and pop up techniques as well as and balancing. All students will start out in the shallow water riding the whitewater until they are comfortable with venturing further out.

Our sleepover program emphasizes the different ways the Santa Barbara Zoo focuses on conservation, from the exotic to the local animals. Instructors will lead the group through fun experiments and activities to investigate animal adaptations and different skills necessary to study animals. Activities include a night walk, making behavioral enrichment bags for the animals, up close education animal encounters, special behind-the-scenes experience, and special time with a zookeeper.

This experience is designed to cater to your group’s wishes, so they get to decide what animal we’ll focus on, whether it’s Herbivores (elephants or gorillas) or Creepy Crawlies (snakes, lizards, frogs). We will also provide a group photo and lots of other fun surprises.
